What the New Tigers TV Deal Means
The Tigers are working on a new over-the-air TV agreement that would bring a handful of games back to regular broadcast television. There could be roughly 10 games for the 2026 season, which is honestly a big shift considering how locked it has been behind cable and streaming sports apps.
How Many Games Could Be on Free TV
This would run alongside everything else they've been building out with their new TV setup. The team, along with Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, has already been working on a new network and distribution plan to make games more accessible across Michigan. That includes cable, satellite, and even direct-to-consumer streaming options.
Why the Tigers Are Changing Their Broadcast Strategy
It means you won't always need a subscription to catch a Tigers game. It is a thing a lot of fans have been asking for, as sports viewing keeps getting more complicated year over year. However, 10 games isn't a lot when you consider the 100+ Tiger games in a season.
Is This the Start of More Free Games?
With streaming apps being a major player in the sports broadcasting world, this will be a bit of a step in the right direction on a new competition for some of the streaming restrictions we've seen to these games. While you'll still need a subscription to watch the Detroit Tigers during the regular season, are we getting closer to you being able to watch the Tigers back on your local television stations again?
