Thousands of West Michigan Catholics will be observing Lenten practice of abstaining from eating meat on Fridays until Easter. To mark the season, many parishes in the Diocese of Grand Rapids, along with local lodges and community halls will host weekly Lenten fish fries.

From classic fried pollock to walleye and hake, menus vary by location. Some spots even feature baked fish options, mahi mahi, shrimp tacos, or combo plates. Popular sides include French fries, baked potatoes, coleslaw, dinner rolls, hush puppies, applesauce, salads, and more.

Many Grand Rapids-area fish fries are family-friendly, with kid options like mac and cheese, grilled cheese, pizza, and reduced pricing—and at some locations, children under five eat free.
