The restaurant was started by three friends who thought Detroit deserved a brunch spot that didn’t phone it in. They wanted inventive, scratch-made comfort food in a place that felt like your favorite neighborhood hangout. As the owners put it:

It's not your basic eggs-and-toast kind of spot.
Dime Store's inventive menu includes:
- Smoked Salmon Benny – Poached eggs, house-made hollandaise, and capers on an English muffin.
- Reuben Omelet – Corned beef, Gruyère, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and rye crumbles.
- Mexican Street Corn Hash – Roasted corn, Brussels sprouts, queso fresco, and spiced crema.

The Story Behind Dime Store's s Name

When The Dime Store first opened in 2014, it set up shop inside Detroit’s historic Dime Building. Built in 1912 as the Dime Savings Bank Building, it was home to a then-groundbreaking idea: a savings account you could open with just a dime.

The building was later renamed Chrysler House, but its history lives on in the restaurant’s name. The owners chose Dime Store as a nod to both the iconic Dime Building and the classic five-and-dime shops you'd find all over back in the day
