Michigan State Dominates WMU 23–6 in Season Opener
The Michigan State football team kicked off their 2025 season with a good statement, dominating Western Michigan 23-6 under the lights in East Lansing. The Spartans stormed out to a 21-0 lead by halftime, with many standout moments on both sides of the ball.
Season-Opener Breakdown
Freshman running back Makhi Frazier made waves in his first career start, rushing for 103 yards and powering in a touchdown up the middle to seal an early advantage for the team. Quarterback Aidan Chiles was just as sharp on the field, putting up 155 yards and tossing a touchdown pass to Nick Marsh, plus engineering the drive that set up Frazier's score.

Wideout Omari Kelly chipped in as well, hauling in 54 yards and helping keep things rolling.
Defense Dominates
Michigan State's defense did what it does best, and that was dominate. They held WMU to just 29 rushing yards, forced turnovers on downs multiple times, and even turned a stop in the end zone into points with a safety. Freshman punter Ryan Eckley added his own impact as well, dropping punts inside the 5-yard line and stranding the Broncos deep.
Western Michigan's biggest contributions came late in the game: a pick-six off backup quarterback Alessio Milivojevic by former Spartan linebacker Tate Hallock, though the extra point failed.
Looking Ahead: Next Game vs Boston College
By game's end, MSU was 1-0, smashing nonconference home openers for the 25th straight year and extending a 14-game win streak that stretches all the way back to 1921.
The Spartans have their sights set on next Saturday against Boston College at Spartan Stadium, with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
