Aurelius Road Is Closed in Lansing Until Late October

"Darn it!" I yelled as I saw the telltale orange glimmer reflecting off the ROAD CLOSED barricades that spanned the entire width of the road in the distance (OK, it wasn't "Darn it"; it was more spicy than that). Aurelius Road, my quick and easy pathway to work that avoids lights and heavily populated deer areas, was closed. The detour and the project, sadly, aren't going to be quick either.

Why Aurelius Road Is Closed Through October

Aurelius Road was closed on August 31, 2026, at the Pawlowski Creek culvert between Miller and Jolly Roads for a bridge replacement project. According to WILX, the closure is expected to remain in place through late October. So, no, this is not a "maybe it'll reopen after lunch" situation.

Where Aurelius Road Is Closed in Lansing

Barricades have been placed on Aurelius Road at Miller and Jolly Roads (site of my "Darn it!" that wasn't a "Darn it!"). Businesses will remain accessible. Anything north of the closure can be reached from Jolly Road, while businesses south of it can be accessed from Miller Road. You can still get there. You just cannot get there as quickly.

Aurelius Road Detours for Northbound and Southbound Drivers

Northbound drivers must head west on Miller Road, north on Pennsylvania Avenue, and east on Jolly Road before returning to Aurelius. Southbound drivers get the reverse adventure: west on Jolly, south on Pennsylvania, and east on Miller.

That is less of a detour and more of a rectangular sightseeing trip through southeast Lansing, complete with several traffic lights serving as the featured attractions. College Road may also be an option (not an official detour route), depending on where you're coming from and where you're heading.

I would leave early, especially during the morning and afternoon rush hours, if possible. Until late October, that quick drive on Aurelius has been replaced by Michigan's least favorite seasonal activity: following orange signs while quietly questioning every decision that brought me here.
