If you’re going for a cozy cup of tea, you may want to do a quick pantry sweep. A of herbal tea sold in Michigan is being pulled because it may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can make people ill quickly.

What Product Is Being Recalled

The product involved is Celebration Herbals Senna Leaf Herbal Tea. It comes in a box of 24 tea bags, and the weight is 1.48 ounces. If you have it at home, check the identifying codes, because that is how you’ll know whether your box is part of the recall.

Codes to Check on Your Box

The UPC is 628240201829, the lot code is 251004, and the best-by date is October 29, 2028. The recall covers 1,226 retail units, which works out to nearly 30,000 individual tea bags across Michigan and several other states.

Salmonella typically hits the intestinal tract. Symptoms can include diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever, and they can show up anywhere from about six hours to six days after exposure. Most healthy adults recover, but infections can be severe, and the risk is higher for young kids, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system.

What to Do If You Bought It

The easiest move here is to simply toss this product or return it for a full refund. Do not drink the tea. If you have the matching UPC and lot code, toss it out, or take it back to where you bought it and ask about a refund. If you already brewed it and you start feeling sick, call a healthcare provider, especially if symptoms are severe or do not improve. Also, wash any mugs or infusers you used.
