Okemos Named Best Place to Live in All of Michigan

If there's one thing those of us in Mid-Michigan can agree on, it's that our friends to the southeast — down around Ann Arbor — have a bit of a superiority complex.

That's why I cannot — will not — let it sneak by when one of these new lists shows up and casts Mid-Michigan in an even more favorable light.

The college and community ranking website Niche recently revealed its list of the "Best Places to Live in Michigan". And would you look at this? Okemos is officially #1. Not just "pretty good". Not just "nice schools". Number. One.

And if we're being honest? That tracks.

Why Okemos Keeps Ranking So Highly

If you live around Lansing, you already know the deal. Okemos is close to Michigan State. It's close to the state capital. It's loaded with parks and restaurants and trails and shopping and schools that consistently rank among the best in the state.

It's the kind of place where people move for the schools... then end up staying because everything else just feels right too.

Other Michigan Communities That Made the List

To be fair, a lot of the other communities that landed on the list have a similar vibe. Novi, Troy and Northville have long been considered some of the state's most desirable suburbs. East Grand Rapids and Rochester are both places where you feel completely comfortable walking the streets. Farmington and Pittsfield Charter Township keep growing because people want that balance between convenience and breathing room.

But for Mid-Michigan? Seeing Okemos top this list feels like a little hometown win.

And we will absolutely take it.
