I Thought It Was a Porta-Potty—Then I Opened the Door
So I went to Purdue over the weekend.
Had a college graduation I was invited to.
We were killing time the night before at a sports bar—watching the Pistons, that kind of thing.

I encountered a rather unusual place in downtown Lafayette, Indiana, called D.T. Kirby's.
A Downtown Lafayette Spot That Embraces Weird
Let me just say that this is one of those quirky restaurants where everything's just purposely weird. As you go in, one of the first things you notice are two bright blue
porta-potties in the restaurant.
Porta-potties? Yes. In the restaurant.

I had to go. I wanted to wash before my meal, you know? I figured there'd at least be hand sanitizer or something.
But I saw a guy walk in before me. I'm like, okay, now I have to wait.

You know how like when you go into a porta-potty, you turn the lock behind you, and it goes from green to red? Like occupied/not occupied?
The door still indicated green, but I saw him go in there. Some people don't always lock the door. I didn't want to barge in on someone doing their business.
I'm waiting patiently... probably there, I don't know, two minutes. And one of the servers approaches me and asks, "Can I help you?"
"I'm just waiting," I replied. "Somebody's in there."
"You can go in there," she says.
"What?" I thought I misheard her, but I had not.
"Go ahead."
I'm sure she saw the suspicion on my face as I slowly opened the door.
The Porta-Potty That Isn’t What It Seems
Good grief.

Welcome to ‘Porta-Potty Narnia’
It's a completely normal bathroom. They just have this façade over the front of it. It was Porta-Potty Narnia. I opened the door to a whole magical world of urinals and toilets and multiple people being able to do multiple things, washing hands and everything you'd expect from a restaurant bathroom.
